Qigong with Tom

Helping You Move Better, Breathe Easier, Feel Stronger

After a long career in health and social care in the UK I spent several years undertaking training in yoga, qigong (sometimes called the ‘Chinese yoga’), breathwork and meditation. All of these have helped me find balance and calm in a busy world. Sharing these wonderful practices with my clients has given me a new vocation and I’d love to welcome you to a class. I now teach in Moraira and the surrounding areas, including community classes, 1-to-1s and at retreats.

How Qigong & Yoga Can Benefit You:

Yoga and qigong are effective, low-impact disciplines that build strength, flexibility, balance and core stability while improving posture, joint health and range of motion.

Further, both yoga and qigong are great for calming the nervous system and reducing stress. The focus is on functional movement, steady breathing and confidence in how we move — helping us to feel more grounded, resilient and at ease in our bodies.

Both are great to help us ‘return’ to our bodies and find calm, especially after periods of stress and / or change.

I aim for my classes to be inclusive, accessible and above all enjoyable. All are welcome, regardless of age, experience or physical issues.

Separating Heaven & Earth

One of the Eight Silk Brocades, a foundational sequence in Qigong. A firm favourite of my students (and me). Good for the spine, arms and obliques. A slow, stretchy and calming movement to bring you into the present.

Phoenix Spreads Its Feathers

A slightly more challenging high lunge pose, this requires a bit more balance and strength through the legs as we lift and then lower.

Let’s Twist Again

This is one of the many ‘dragon’ forms in qigong. If you hear dragon in relation to a movement it’s very likely to refer to a spinal movement. Here we’re lifting the arms, stretching and then twisting to the sides. Building strength in the arms and bringing mobility to the back, spine and sides. The arm movements can take a bit of getting used to – so it’s also good for the concentration and coordination.

The Archer

Want stronger legs and more open shoulders? This qigong movement trains both at once — with breath leading the body.
